Retired QB Tom Brady's final touchdown ball goes for $518K at auction
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — According to the auction site Lelands, the ball from quarterback Tom Brady's final career touchdown pass as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers sold for $518,000.
Brady threw a 55-yard touchdown throw to wide receiver Mike Evans with 3:20 left in the fourth quarter of the NFC divisional playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams, trimming the Rams' lead to 27-20.
Evans threw the ball into the seats since Brady had made no indication that he would retire, and there were only rumors that he was thinking about it at the time. The item was contributed by the fan who caught the ball.
Last year, Brady's first career touchdown pass (to Terry Glenn) as a member of the New England Patriots was auctioned off for $428,841 on the site.
Brady's final touchdown ball was auctioned off to a total of 23 people, with the starting offer at $100,000. According to some on the site, the ball could have sold for up to $1 million.
Brady is still under contract with the Buccaneers and has hinted at a return, though coach Bruce Arians indicated at the NFL combine last month that he believed Brady had slammed the door on a return based on his interactions with the seven-time Super Bowl champion quarterback.
